Johanna Schmalöer ist eine in Berlin lebende Sängerin, Cellistin, Performancekünstlerin und Pädagogin.
Sie wurde 1996 in Dortmund geboren und wuchs dort auf.
Seit 2020 studiert sie an der Universität der Künste Berlin Musik und Bewegung mit dem Hauptfach Gesang.
Ihre künstlerische Praxis umfasst sowohl Musik als auch Tanz, wobei sie die Überschneidungen und gegenseitigen Einflüsse dieser Bereiche erforscht und sich zwischen den Grenzen von Improvisation und Komposition bewegt.
Als Musikerin arbeitet Johanna mit analogen Technologien wie Kassetten und anderen Tonbandgeräten, der Stimme und dem Cello. Ihre Musik veröffentlicht sie unter dem Namen „franna“.
Seit 2022 gibt Johanna Gesangsunterricht und leitet Kurse in Musik und Bewegung.
Johanna Schmalöer is a Berlin-based singer, cellist, and performance artist.Born in 1996 in Dortmund, Germany, she has been studying Music and Movement at the University of the Arts in Berlin since 2020, with voice as her main subject.Johanna’s artistic practice spans both music and performance, where she explores the boundaries between improvisation and composition, as well as the intersections and mutual influences of these fields.She began playing the cello as a child and rediscovered it through improvisation and sound exploration. Currently, her musical practice incorporates tapes, electronics, voice, and the cello.As a mover, Johanna works in performance art, collaborating on interdisciplinary projects.Since 2022, Johanna has also been teaching vocal lessons and leading courses in Music and Movement.
